You just need to boost your emotional intelligence and build your persuasion skills. googletag.cmd.push(function() googletag.display(div-gpt-ad-1467144145037-0) ) What Great Persuaders Have In CommonThere are some key behaviors that people who get what they want all have.People PleasingKnowing when and how to sacrifice in order to win thewar, rather than every small battle, is an important skill. Good persuaders knowhow to give ground to coworkers (even adversaries) and play the long game by making people happy. Not PushingYou must establish needs and ideas assertively and with confidence, but witho ut being pushy or overly impatient all while never being mousy or a pushoverKnowing their AudiencePeople who get what they want know how to play to whatever crowd or group theyrefacing, know when to quit or pull back slightly, and learn to paint a specific picture in order to sell an idea.Using Body Language EffectivelySmiling is a secret weapon you should not underestimateinspiring trust and confidence in your colleagues and managers. But other kinds of body language are helpful as well, such as keeping your arms open and not crossed, leaning in, and making eye contact.ListeningAcknowledging your listeners point of view, asking intelligent questions, and using their name are all great ways to show your openness to other points of view and your willingness to compromise.Establishing a ConnectionIf you want to make real connections, the best way to do this is to find common ground with the people you speak to and to be genuine, rather than trying to conform to some idea of what you t hink people want to see or hear from you.How You can Improve Your Skills to Get a JobIf you are facing an interview situation, then there are a few extra tips to prove (and practice) your persuasiveness.Determine Whether Youre Thinking or FeelingDecide based on your interviewer whether it would be fruchtwein beneficial to preface what youre saying with I think or I feel. Research shows this makes a difference depending on how the person you are speaking to is oriented, with most analytical/cognitive-oriented people being more susceptible to thought/task-oriented language.Think of Yourself a Product to PitchRemember that an interview is a sales pitch. Dont just rely on rehashing your experience. Find a way to market and sell yourself. Try recording three unique selling points, or your brand, that you want your interviewer to remember after you leave. Never offer a standard answer when you could tailor your answer to be more relevant to your interviewers business and their experience. Speak with passion and youve got yourself a real sales pitchCome Armed with KnowledgeDo the homework necessary to be taken as an expert. Research the industry, wield the jargon, and prepare examples of how you would be (because you already have been) effective in dealing with the kinds of problems you might confront in this job.Project ConfidenceRemember that projecting confidence is absolutely crucial to presenting your ideas. The best way to achieve the right degree of confidence is to practice as much as possible, until what youre saying is automatic and comfortable. Then just remember to breathe regularly to keep your nerves at bay. If you get derailed, just try and mimic the behavior, postures, and tone of the most confident person you know Eventually, youll start to feel as confident as you are acting.

What are your priorities at work?I lead a team responsible for accelerating electric transportation in Southern California. We work with people across the company to design and implement customer programs that help lower the cost and barriers to adopting electric vehicles (EV). We have over $1 billion of budgeted or planned infrastructure investments in this space in addition to programs and partnerships for electric vehicle rebates and market, education and outreach. As a company, we believe the state of California needs to have 7 million EVs on the road by 2030, up from only 500,000 today. This will take an enormous cross-industry effort, but we are up to the challenge. We arent taking on this challenge because it is easy we are doing it because it is necessary for cl ean air for our communities and to mitigate climate change. As one of our customers recently said, we are changing the world. We are now in the exciting time of moving from pilot to scale. We are on the cutting edge of the industry in this space, which provides the opportunity to act a little like a start-up within a large organization. Where previously we were installing 500 charging ports per year, in short order we will need to be installing thousands of ports per year. Our priorities are to create simple streamlined processes, programs, and technologies to make EV adoption easy for our customers, develop partnerships across industries to advance electrification, and share our lessons learned being on the cutting edge with other utilities and stakeholder groups so they can learn from the experiences weve had. What were you doing previously/what has your career path looked like?Previously, Ive held roles of increasing responsibility at SCE Edison zwischenstaatlich focusing on clean energy policy, strategy, and analysis. At SCE Edison International, Ive had the opportunity to take on new roles in different functional areas and have appreciated the support of leadership to take on these new challenges. I also worked at First Solar, a large solar panel manufacturer, developing global public policy. How did your own manager support you while you were building your team?My manager and other leaders at the company have been very supportive throughout this process. Vehicle electrification is a core element of our companys clean power and electrification strategy. With that, the most senior leaders at the company want our team to succeed and provide support with time, direction, and resources. My direct manager has been supportive by being a strategic thought partner throughout the process and helping to make sure the team has the resources we need to be successful. While building this team, what did you learn that surprised you most? What surprised me most while build ing this team is how eager people have been to both join the team and support the effort regardless of whether they are on the direct team or not. People are passionate about vehicle electrification because they see it making a tangible difference in their lives and their communities. In Southern California we have the worst air quality in the country and vehicle electrification can help to change that. What do you love most about your job?I am so grateful to be in this role. I have never seen such an alignment between State environmental, customer, and our corporate goals as there is with transportation electrification. The passion in our employees and the industry will allow us to take on these ambitious goals and to succeed.I love being part of something new, with all of the challenges that come along with it, and most of all I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such dynamic and driven people.Whats your no. 1 tip for job seekers?Do your research I am always impressed by candidates who have a good understanding of what our company does and how it aligns with their personal and professional goals.--Fairygodboss is proud to partner with SCE.Find a job there today
